Worlds Apart Stories (Which Are Shorter)
Fiddlers Green
-
The Aves Quentin, carrying TyroCommander Redfire and an exploration
crew crashes into a swamp. In order to save his ship and his crew,
Redfire must deal with the local inhabitants and navigate the rules of a
planet that stands logic on its head then pulls down its pants and
laughs at it.

Medea

Independence
-
Submitted for your approval, Commander William Keeler and six others
depart the planet Indepedence to return to their ship, The
Pegasus. Unbeknown to them, the shuttle Prudence is about
to take a detour to a dimension of sight, and sound, and of mind. Fasten
your seat belts and put away any service items you may have used during
the flight, as we prepare for a landing in The Twilight Zone.

The Last Two People on Electra IV

.
General Trivia That Is Meaningless
- Fidder's Green: Flight Lieutenant
Lawless is based on Lucy Lawless.
- Fidder's Green: The line "as though the ship were
grinning at him" echoes the end of the movie Silver Streak.
- The plot of Independence has similarities to Stephen King€™s The Langoliers.
- Independence: Keeler makes reference to "an old Earth
legend" that is actually the classic sci-fi story "The Nine Billion
Names of God" by Arthur C. Clarke
- Independence: "Happy Fun Ball" is a
reference to the SNL sketch "Happy Fun Ball."
- "The
Last Two People on Electra IV" is the only Worlds-Apart story (So far)
not involving the Pathfinder Ship Pegasus, although it is set on a world visited by the
Pathfinder Ship Lexington Keeler in Book 06.
- Electra IV: Many place names in the state of
California including Torrance, Tulare, and Modoc are referenced in the
story.
- Electra IV is the only serious
Worlds-Apart story, devoid of any comic relief. How depressing is that?
- Electra IV was originally written
as a submission for the Critters-dot-org creative writing exchange, but
I never got around to submitting it.
- Electra IV: A "Silver Lady" also figures
prominently in Matthew Driver and Trajan Lear€™s memory of the Chronos
universe. (FYI: They are the same creature.)
- Medea was recycled as the first
three chapters of Book 03: Bodicéa, so you can pretty much skip one or
the other.
